I like this Comic. Somehow, we have all experienced this lack of identity in the last weeks. Honestly I don’t think it’s bad if we do support a foreign team. Malta can never do it in this competition and after all everyone is free to support his favourite teams.

What I don’t like is this extreme fanatic approach of some Maltese. One typical example are the maniacs driving at high speeds with their respective cars going all round the island using long lasting horns continuously disturbing people any time during the day especially in the early hours of the day. That's mad!

Ok winning the World Cup is one thing and it was 100% merited for all those Italian fans out there enjoying themselves and building that atmosphere - I was one of them! But going out after each and every game is something I can’t figure. Not to mention the silly occurrences when there were even slight injuries and insults between different supporters. Totally insane!

Another consideration that one must take into consideration is the fact that we (Maltese) are a small country and such manifests are to a certain extend magnified. A case in question is the annual appointment with the Eurovision.

One other thing (and this is true albeit it is not widely accepted from the public) is the fact that we Maltese have had a history of great political differences between two lines of politics and powers; the English empire and the Italian influences of the 19th century and early 20th century - just take a look to any good history book and one can notice this silent continuous scuffle between these different approaches.

Well this could be debatable but I think somehow this huge Italian and English craze has its’ root in history. Not to mention that there could be direct parental occurrences in certain family trees that does have direct correlation with these countries. Typically this is more rooted to the Italian side, due to the fact that there are numerous surnames in Malta that they are descending from Italian origin.

Well this fact can be debatable too. What its true is that we are bound to remain like this. We are political partisans. We like to create barriers within our own society. I really would like to see a political improvement in the local scenario. Were the subjectivity diminishes and objectivity increases. This will hopefully result in more objectivity in football supporting thus will likely reflect into a better Maltese identity through out any sportive event :)
